The One Night Stands are an Alternative/New Wave/Pop band from Johannesburg, South Africa. Formed in 2007, they were offered a record deal by Sting Music in 2008 and recorded their critically acclaimed self-titled, debut album that same year. The singles '1992' and 'Hymns' both became radio hits, but it was the majestic track, 'Seconds' that propelled the band on to national radio and eventually became a number 1 on 5FM's popular chart show.
The One Night Stands worked with legendary film maker Daron Chatz to direct and produce two powerful videos for ‘Seconds’ and for ‘Talk Talk’ (a cover of the 1982 hit by the English band of the same name). These videos became staples of not only South African TV stations, but also of the newly launched MNET HD channel. They are both still in rotation.
The One Night Stands have just released their sophomore album, Songs From The Edge of The World. It is preceded by the single, Johnny Wants The Big Time, which has already been playlisted on many country wide radio stations, including East Coast Fm.
Songs From The Edge Of The World is being hailed as the 'Best South African Pop-Rock album of the past 5 years!' This is what lead singer and guitarist Lu has to say about it,
"It features our strongest material yet and is stylistically more varied than our first album. There's everything from electro pop, to alternative rock with influences stretching all the way back to early soul, jazz and blues."
The One Night Stands have built up a loyal and ever increasing fan base and continue to touch people with their bittersweet yet melodic music. The band is sponsored by Volcom and Iron Fist.
The One Night Stands hit the road touring, gigging and promoting the album from early January 2011 kicking off with some Johannesburg shows. All the band information is listed on the website.
