it's heady times these days in the One Night Stands camp. We are in the process of completing our new album, titled 'Machines'. We are hoping for a July release depending on whether I can finish writing these lyrics I've got in my brain!
But in the meantime, be sure to catch us airing our new tunes like freshly unpacked bed sheets at Amuse Cafe in Linden on the 22nd February or at THE BOHEMIAN on the 1st of March
We will be debuting some newer 'new' tunes. And getting drunk. So it should be awesome, we hope you will come along and join us
Other than that, drop me a line and tell me what your favourite album of 2012 was. Mine was probably the XX 'Co-Exist' :)
cheers!

New Wave pop group THE ONE NIGHT STANDS return this year with a brand new album titled ‘Machines’. This is the Sting/EMI signed group’s 3rd album and features a horde of hummable pop tunes, which insiders are calling their best yet. Produced by whizz kid operator Jody Rusch and the rest of the band, it is scheduled for a June release date.
“It’s been a triumph over adversity” states singer and guitarist Lu.

What a wonderful week it's been
Check out this clip of us, shot by VOLUME SA TASTE MAKERS. www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9cr0tjvZLk&feature=share
They featured us in the very first edition of their 'Taste Makers' online publication.
Also you guys must look out for the video of Slippery Slope which has just come off the cutting room floor. We'll put up a link very soon. We love the video! It's got this psychedelic, neurotic sort of vibe to it and it also shows a light-hearted side to the group. Slippery Slope is still playlisted on radio and is taking off nicely on the national campus stations too.
A reminder that I'll be playing an acoustic show with Louise at Kitcheners Carvery Bar this Thursday (17th), do come along to that, it's gonna be much fun. Then also Louise & I will be DJing at Bob Rocks in Greenside on Saturday night, playing all our favourite tunes and the ones that influence us in The One Night Stands. Hope to see you guys there!
keep it rocking

Sorry it's been so long that we've written, we've been up to so much stuff lately and time has been flying!!
We got a great weekend coming up which we are really excited for.
Firstly on Friday 21st of October we are playing at our favourite stomping ground, The Bohemian. This is gonna be a totally exciting night as we will be previewing FIVE new songs! That's right folks.. We have been busy writing material for our next album and we have a couple of new gems lined up for you.
Then on Saturday 22nd, come down to the AWARE shop in Juta st Braamfontein. We will be busking on the pavement outside this funky independent music store, (at which both our albums are on sale incidentally.)
Then next Sunday 30th October, I, Lu de Pina from Brixton JHB, will be playing solo at Transkei in Melville for a big Halloween party that's going on there .. I'm really looking forward to that as it's been a while since i've done my solo thang.
We have also just finished shooting a new music video for our single Slippery Slope, which is still getting tremendous airplay on radio. We filmed the video with the legendary Daron Chatz who also did our previous videos for Seconds (www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF0iKZzkuS4) & Talk Talk (www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAmextSQSok&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLBD72B4BFBE431B31)
Daron came up with a fantastic concept for the video and we are dying to see the end result! Look out for the links soon
Hey listen, catch you peeps soon. Come round to the shows sometime to say hi

Yes, so, we're back in Johannesburg after a too-short weekend in the Western Cape.
Just to let you ou's in on some of the shenanigans we got up to. I, Louise from Montgomery Park, am writing this one for you!
Thursday: It's raining cats and dogs. We pick up loan-gear from Paul Bothners and head over to Stellies. We're late for our interview on MFM and after being reprimanded we get told to come back in 30 mins. At the interview we conclude that Ed is an alcoholic and that I am a slut.
We then head over to Mystic Boer for sound check, I nearly fall asleep on the bar counter (the previous night we had a bit of a "slumber" party at Graham's). T'was a cool gig with almost no people. We only found out that night that it was study week or something.
Friday: I missed the Friday morning UCT interview. Can't give you much info. Graham said we all loved chess or something. The One Night Stands guys then head back home to wake me up. Drinking and Cape Town explorations then ensued.
Saturday: We're in love with The Assembly! A big thank you to all the staff! Lu nearly creamed himself when he heard the soundie had worked with The The and Einsturzende Neubaten. We want to thank everyone involved. Thanks to Red Stag, the awesome VJs and Pierre.
Keywords to this weekend included cadaver, Laudo, Van Coke jump and Byellville!

The moment is now upon us. The One Night Stands are about to release 'Songs From The Edge Of The World'. Months of agony, expectation, big high's and even bigger lows are now ALL OVER.
I am extremely happy and proud of it. Sarah and I have spent the last 2 weeks pouring over the art work and it's finally complete and looking terrific. We are thrilled to hear that EMI are going to distribute it.. Oh man, memories of staring at Beatle's records in my youth and spotting that ubiquitous emblem! Good times ahead..
Our press release is proclaiming this album as 'The Best South African Album of the Past 5 Years'. I know that it's a statement that might upset some people, I know that it seems arrogant and cocky, but you know what fuck it, I really do believe it!! It's an album that encapsulates my entire musical experience and it's a summation of all my many influences, and I just think that it's the best thing I've ever done. I am really happy with it.
The album should be available around the middle of February. 'Johnny Wants The Big Time' is the single that will preceed the album and we are shooting a music video for the song this week. Tomorrow is a photo shoot with the new line up, it's going to be really awesome and the look we are after is to replicate the wintry, white feel of the album sleeve.
I know it's been a while since last you saw us, but believe me we are going to be everywhere soon!
check out our 'live' page and see where our next gigs are .....
I'll be keeping you a lot more updated!

Hey youse
We did a show last night in Benoni and it was incredible. A lot of our friends and fans turned up and a raucous time was had by all! We also made friends with a rattle-taggle bunch of folk-punks, who go by the name of The Sunday Punchers, and who opened up for us. The seven piece acoustic "just for the night" band made up of mandolins, banjo's, harmonica's, acoustic bass reminded me of some of my favourite bands - Waterboys, Pogues and the Levellers. Awesome!
Thank you to everybody who turned up.

Some changes are on the go at the moment. The main one is that our album 'Songs From The Edge Of The World' has been postponed for release until February next year. The reason for this is that we felt that some of the stuff just wasn't sound quite right yet. It needed a little more tweaking ... or in our case wrecking! Nevertheless, we assure you that it will be worth the wait
In the meantime you can check out our webpage on www.reverbnation.com to hear some of the completed tracks.

Later in October, we will be visiting Cool Runnings JHB. Saturday 23rd October (..also Sarah's birthday.. nudge nudge) we'll be at Victory Park, and on Wednesday 27th in Benoni.
Catch our interview on 94.7 on Sunday night (the 19th September) and please vote on their sms line to get us playlisted.
All good?

Apologies for being so quiet so for long! Lots has been going on - mostly with regards the finishing of or album, Songs From The Edge Of The World. Unfortunately the release has been moved to early 2011. Despite all our efforts to get this record finished by the end September, we just haven't been able to meet that deadline... We felt that there were still things that could be done better, and we didn't want to jeopardise the potential of the album, by having to release it by a certain date.
I know a few of you will be disappointed by this, but believe me, it will really be worth it.
The songs are sounding fantastic, though. I am personally thrilled by the way things are turning out, and I really do feel this is the best quality of music we've ever recorded.
Listen out for us on the Highveld Homebru show on Sunday 18th September, at about 7.15pm. We will be previewing some of our new favourite songs. We'll also give out some goodies...
Our new single, Isolation has been released. You can hear it right now at 'Reverbnation' (http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5080697) . It is also currently charting on a few radio stations, mostly campus.
We are going to Potchefstroom for the first time tomorrow (September 16th). We really look forward to it, cos we've heard the students party hard down there! We should get on like a smouldering house! Come support us at PABLO'S if anyone's in the area.
We will be playing many shows now towards the end of the year. Keep a look out for us, we will be coming to a town near you soon.
I'll rap to you all again soon
be well

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our new drummer, Eddie White. Eddie used to play the drums in that fantastic rock n roll group, The Hellphones. We think he's brilliant and are extremely chuffed to have him on board!
'Isolation' will be the first single released from our forthcoming album, 'Songs From The Edge Of The World' and it will be released on the 16th of August. We are very excited about this particular release because we feel that 'Isolation' is one of the best things we've done. It's a massive step forward in terms of sound and experiment. We hope you like it.
'Songs From The Edge Of The World' will be out around the end of September. 12 tracks are confirmed, including 'Johnny Wants The Big Time' and 'Yesterday's Girl'.
We will be on tour from September, taking in Durban, Cape Town, Nelspruit, Potchefstroom amongst others. Keep your eye on our 'live' page for more info.
Please keep your mails coming through, we greatly appreciate the time and effort some of you spend on keeping US updated too. :)
Looking forward to seeing ya all soon

We have some big news to tell you all. To some of you it might come as a bit of a surprise.. But after months of deliberation, George has decided to leave the band. We wish to assure everybody that the group will continue as usual and we are currently auditioning drummers. The One Night Stands wish George all the best for the future and thank him for the contribution he made to the band.
12 weeks into the recording of the album and we are very happy with the results so far. We have completed Isolation, Spirit Of '76, Red, Johnny Wants The Big Time, Yesterday's Girl and Frequency. I have to admit, I think they are sounding incredible. Once again with Matthew Fink at the helm, things always turn out unexpectedly interesting. As per our request for a more experimental and cutting edge sound, you'll be surprised to hear Electronica and Electric being blended quite wonderfully. Songs like Frequency, I really do feel, are some of the best work we've done.
We want to release a 12 track album, which means we still have to put down another 8 songs or so and pick the best of the bunch. Things may take a little longer than anticipated, as we are using this time to try out many different drummers, in order to get exactly the right feel for some of this new material.
It's all really very exciting!
As for shows, well we're not doing many. We've got private shows on the 10th and the 17th of July in the KZN Midlands. Then one at the Bohemian on the 31st of July. That will be a nice homecoming for us and we will be celebrating by playing a selection of our favourite 60's songs! Do make sure you catch that show if you're in the Melville area.
We hope you are all well. Please keep the mails coming through like you do. Reach me anytime at [email protected] wheneva you feel like saying hi
Be well and peace love

We are very excited to announce that we are about ready to start recording our second album. It's been a year and a half since the release of THE ONE NIGHT STANDS, and we are getting so amp'd to roadtest the new material.
We are still laying low on the gigging side and trying to just do the really 'fun' gigs, hence March 12th (See 'Live' for more info). So we won't be out and about as much as we have been, but all will be worth it in the end. We are looking at (hopefully) August as a possible release time, but you never can really tell with these things.
Please continue to stay in touch with us - as many of you have - and keep on recommending us to your buddies with good musical taste!
be well all - catch up soon

oh wow ... where do I start??? There is so much to report...
Twenty Ten is going to be a busy year indeed. We have spent the last two months doing some pre-production work with Matthew Fink. We have 10 new songs that are really smoking, but we do want to write a few more just to give us a nice range of options!
I know that I did report that we were looking at a March release, but at this point it just seems unrealistic, and possibly it will be more towards mid year.
We are really thrilled with the new material..
We also start a busy gigging schedule this month. You can see us with the superb AsShtray Electric at Back2Basics in Melville next Wednesday and also at Thorn Fest next Friday the 28th. Please see the gig guide for more info.
We will also be updating this website again pretty soon. New pics, new profile interviews etcetera, etcetera...
Many more updates to follow, just keep your dial locked to this page!
Oh, and by the way, we're being played in Miami (..apparently..:) )

Jeez what a crazy 6 weeks.... After bust up's, engagements, governments falling, The One Night Stands soldier on...
We have been spending the last month writing new material for our second album. Personally I am thrilled to bits, I think our new stuff is very, very good. I think people will be surprised!
Some of the new stuff is slow and dreamy, some of it nasty and dirty. There is one song in particular which just totally blows my mind - and we just jammed it out one night where everything just fell into place.
At this point we will not be gigging much - unless of course we're offered lots of money, k! The expectant release for the album is looking around March 2010.
IN the meantime, our current single 'Hymns' sits at number 2 on the UJ World chart ... This is just too cool. It's also getting spun all around the shop including, YEBO FM, Midrand FM, Tuks, Puk and MFM (Stellenbosch). Once again, thanks to all of you for the support.
long live the rebels

Well, Well, Well - I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round, listening to 'A Day In The Life' and thinking of Dr Winston O Boogie... If that makes no sense to you .... Oh Dear Yoko!
Just a quick update here :-
We will be on K-TV tomorrow morning at 9.45 being interviewed and performing a rare acoustic version of 'Seconds'.
We are also thrilled that our latest single 'Hymns' has just number 6 on Johannesburg's BEST radio station, UJFM!!! Nice...
As for gigs, unfortunately our TANZ CAFE gig has been CANCELLED due to statistical oversights. But for all our Potchefstroom fans, catch us on Thursday night at Pabo's .. We are very excited as it is our first gig in Potch and decadent friends The Death Valley Blues Band will be coming along for the ride.
The big one in Johannesburg is on the 24th of October with The Sick Leaves at Back2Basix. Make sure you're there - it's gonna be huge!
anyway, that's it from This Boy.

thanks to all our fans - we truly value your support!

We will be releasing our 4th single from our debut album, 'The One Night Stands' in two weeks time. Could it be 'Hymns' could it be 'Heart of Japan', maybe 'The 60 Zone' ..... you'll have to wait and see!! You guys can start by sending our beloved DJ's requests of your favourite T.O.N.S track!
We are very excited at the success our singles have had so far. As you guys may recall, 'Seconds' and '1992' have topped our local charts, 'Talk Talk' and especially it's accompanying video put us on the map. It's been a trip! So we are looking forward to this next release indeed.
Our official sponsor, Iron Fist are opening up the IRON FIST INK STORE in Rosebank at the end of August. We will be doing a show at the Zone with none other than the Parlotones! This is on the 4th of September. There is a competition on the band's website http://www.ironfist.tv/ to win tickets to the event.

It's been a good week. We were happy to hear that our current single '1992' got to NUMBER 1 on UJFM last week, rightly displacing Eminem from that hallowed spot! Thanks to everyone for all your support! We'll be jamming it up with the UJ folk at the Campus in Auckland park this Saturday for the Rag Farm Picnic to celebrate the good times!
We also have shows with the Parlotones & Zebra & Giraffe comin' up, getting nicely back into the swing of things.. Check out our 'Live' page for more details.
Those of you in Potch catch our upcoming interview on the 19th of August, on PUKFM.
Please become fans of our Facebook page if you haven't already
Nicely!

Hola
We had two tv appearances this week.
Last Saturday we were on SABC's kid's show YoTV as the guests of the show. We performed 2 songs and were then expected to engage with the largely young teen audience ... It was hilariously chaotic! After Sarah and I (bafana) were pitted against Martin & George (Spain) at Foosball, we were then cooked 'breakfast' ... My 'shock' allegation that I don't eat breakfast may have caused some bother with the presenters, but I proceeded to eat the smoked salmon and cream-cheese pies they made for us!
Then on Thursday night we were on MNET's channel MK, again .. They have given us tremendous support over the past 6 months. This is about the 5th time we've been back (check out also GONS, Studio1, Celeb .. etc .. which are all archived on the MK website) and we had a really good time. We could bring supporters into the studio and we proceeded to play two songs and did a few interviews too. Check out these links!!

After having taken a short break, the group are getting ready to swing back into full force from August .. In the interim we released our third single '1992', which has been playlisted on all the campus stations around the country. When it went into the UJFM charts, we were one of the few bands ever to have 3 songs in their Top40!!! UJ in particular give us great support (ie playing 'Seconds' and '1992' back to back on Sunday ... awesome)
We are looking to release our 4th single from the album in August, so it's all looking quite rosy from our side!!
I will keep you informed with the proceedings!

Hey Everyone!
I know, I know .. It's been so long! Fear not, all is well and alive in the Standee's camp. Yes we have been taking some time off, penning some new material and hanging out in Cape Town, ha!
All a bit of a magical trip, really.
It's been cool to know that we have been asked to do a very high profile 'Wrap' Party in Cape Town on the 12th of June, for an American film company filming a new min series called, The Philanthropist. We are looking forward to this great opportunity for us.
If you're in Cape Town, get in touch with us and come hang out!!

Hey friends!
There's been so much going on of late, it feels like a bit of a magical mystery trip!!
Firstly check out the changes made to our website. You will find that our 'profiles' have been updated. The 2009 Questionaire is based on the many crazy questions interviewers have asked us over the past 6 months - some of them are really wacky and it's funny to see some of the responses we gave back! Also, have a look at the great new set of photos by Leigh Benson in our gallery - she's a brilliant photographer!
All good...
We played at 'Jo'burg's Burning' on Saturday night, and I just thought it was.... 'so-so'.. It left me thinking, "...what's up with these Joburgers?! Some of them just don't get 'IT' ... " As for the event, it seemed to be a good success. We played after Fire Through The Window who I thought were pretty <cool>.
We were also thrilled to have been invited to the SAMA nominations party. Even though we didn't bag any nominations, were happy to have been invited anyway. Based on the fact that we've only just release our second single, it seemed like a good omen that we were even acknowledged by the industry at this point, and we're now hedging our bets on next years awards. But we had good time drinking all the free drinks!
Two weeks ago we played in Nelspruit with a couple of really great bands, including our new friends, Zebra & Giraffe. We played at Blue Moon, which is a 'must-see' venue if you haven't already, and we played - what I considered to be - one of our best shows ever! So kudos to Nelspruit peeps for being such right party animals! We even got recognized every where we went!!! (...thanks videos....)
Speaking of videos, we've realized that since you guys can't get hold of our videos at all, we've decided to start 'giving out' DVD's at gigs. (These 2 videos are really amazing, you guys gotta check em out on youtube - see 'links' - all shot in HD) Handouts will be given to those folk who are a:) most interested, b:) dance the funniest, c:) are dressed cool, or d:) know the words to all the songs!!
So if you are any of the above, see us at our next show!!
We'd also like to send a warm welcome to our newest member of The One Night Stands crew, Hennie Marais, who along with our management company, Mushroom, will become our official Sound engineer. We really look forward to working with Hennie cos he's - like - the only guy who makes us sound amazing!
Thanks again - to everybody - for all your support. 'Talk Talk' is doing great work, especially on UJFM and on the MK channel on TV. It's great to see so much positive reaction to this song. Keep it up!
Love you guys
Lu

Hey what's up personnel!!
i just wanted to say, look out for us on MK this week (19-26 Jan 09). We are currently being shown through-out the week on "AMP" and then live on Thursday night (...the 22nd..) on "Studio 1" .. The 'amped' clip is cool cos we're performing a live acoustic version of 'Seconds' at Sting Studios <where we recorded the album> and we look moody like the Mary Chain! It's followed by a short interview.
MK are cool - and so is the new Aking single

Hey Hey
Just an update on our next release "Talk Talk":
we have decided to delay the release to first week in March reasons being that "Seconds" is still doing so well and secondly we want to have two huge Video launch parties for "Talk Talk" so the extra time will help us plan properly!
So look out for up & coming details regarding where and when all this will take place and in the mean time we will see you at the next gigs!!

Hey, whatssup friends.. It's Lu here..
It's been an extremely exciting year for us, one that went past way too quickly... Obviously for T.O.N.S, it's been a thoroughly fanatastic year. We got our record deal, we made an amazing album, we worked with Matthew Fink, we released a number one single, we made two outstanding videos with Daron Chatz and we broke some new ground in venues outside of JHB.
We are totally amped for 2009 .. We kick off the year in full throttle mode, making our debut in Cape Town. Friday the 2nd of Jan we're at the Mercury Lounge, the 3rd at Cornerbar. Thereafter in mid Jan we will be releasing our second single, 'Talk Talk', a cover of the old 80's song by the band of the same name! We will be throwing a big party to celebrate it's release and launch it's sooper music video..
Lotsa gigs lined up too, keep an eye on this website for more details.
And also look out for some new songs creeping in to the sets ... i tell ya, some of this new stuff is really boss! I think you will like...
Ok, I'll say bye now.. Thanks for all the support... Have a merry festive season and all the breast for 2009..

Then we were in Durban at Burn a great venue, where we were supported by another great Joburg band SOLACE who also then joined us in Pietermaritzburg for our gig at the Red Door.

Hello!
Things have been going so well with The One Night Stands that I thought I must just write you all an update.
In the last two weeks we've played quite a few shows. We did a fantastic gig for the young punks at the 'Uncaged' animal welfare gig, where the new breed seem to particularly like our brand of disco.. We also played in this battle bands competetion and ended up winning a round at Centurion's 'Rock Shack'. Great venue! We are into the finals which will happen there on the 13th of August. Speaking of videos, check out this cool clip of THE HEART OF JAPAN taken by George's sister when we were recording it ..
http://my.videobloom.com/platform?page=player&v=ccd272323cbd61e605b7c6ad39c524c5
The album is pretty much completed. All the mixes are almost done and the songs are sounding absolutely fantastic. We are going to radio in two weeks with our first single, SECONDS. The version we will release is a specially tailored radio mix, which will be different to the full length version on the album. It's gonna bit a HIT, of course!
It's been a tough decision and we've been falling over each other in arguments as to what should go out first. Contenders have also included 1992, THE HEART OF JAPAN, TALK TALK and DO WHAT YOU DO.
Our album should be out in the first week of September. This will be followed by album launch tour with parties in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and Durban (check the 'live' page..)
SO NOW, go to your local record stores and demand to know who/where & when we can get, THE ONE NIGHT STAND!!!
see you soon

Dear Friends
The last few weeks have been a hectic blur of hard work and crazy bouts of debauchery but absolutely remarkable in every way!
We have just finished the recording of our debut album. All 11 songs are currently getting produced and mastered by the brilliant Matthew Fink. It's been a truly fantastic experience and we're thrilled with the results we've been getting. Matthew is a wizard with old analogue synthesizers (just the kind that Sarah loves playing on...) and we've been layering some awesome sounds with old 80's keyboards like the temperamental ARP, a DMX-7 from 1983, Moogs and classic Roland/Yamaha modules.
At this point the album is untitled but we have a few ideas in mind - including things like 'Kitchen Sink Drama's', 'Red' or simply 'The One Night Stands'! It's quite tough picking an album title actually, because it's both 'throw-away' yet also completely defining! It's taking a lot of thought. Same as the album artwork.
Sting Music were very cool in allowing us complete creative control over the album's cover and over all look. There are a couple of ideas we have in mind and we're probably going to go with .... hhmm?? We've had all sorts of talented lensmen (and women) following and photographing us of late. It's really cool - I finally really feel like i'm in a 'real' band! !
We are expecting to release the first single to radio in mid August. Songs in the runnings are 'The Heart Of Japan', 'Seconds', 'Talk Talk' and '1992'. The launch of the album will follow in mid September, with huge album release parties planned for Johannesburg, Pretoria with Durban & Cape Town following in October. Look out for the album dates and tours all regularly updated on this website.
We have also written a brand new song which are absolutely thrilled with!! It's called 'Yesterday's Girl' - Look out for it's live debut this Spring.
cheers
